Description:
Color Explosion is a large-scale, site-specific mural created by Dan Sapunar at Pixlapiren, a former industrial harbor that has evolved into a vibrant cultural and community space in Helsingborg.
Pixlapiren is not only a platform for contemporary mural art, but also an active urban gardening community featuring sculptures, a skate park, and legal graffiti walls. The site brings together artists, skaters, and local residents, creating a dynamic environment shaped by creativity, participation, and shared ownership.
Responding to this unique context, Sapunar developed a mural that reflects the energy, openness, and transformation of the area. Using Spaceism’s visual language of geometric abstraction, layered movement, and vibrant color transitions, the work activates the industrial container surfaces and integrates with the surrounding creative landscape.
The mural engages in dialogue with the site’s architecture, community function, and cultural identity, contributing to Pixlapiren’s role as a living public space where art, movement, and social interaction intersect.
This project highlights Sapunar’s ability to create meaningful public artworks within socially engaged, interdisciplinary environments that combine muralism, sculpture, urban cultivation, and skate culture.
